About

The color green is a psychologically positive color. It’s the color of life and growth, of renewal and rebirth. It restores energy and provides us a sense of well being.  The color green can show us the ability to love and nurture ourselves and others unconditionally.   Our event is about ideas worth spreading associated with the color green. Our TEDxYouth event is organized by, and catered towards the youth to become lifelong learners and global citizens.

The Art of Effective Communication
Location: 1950 W. Hubbard St Chicago, IL

Marcus Alexander Velazquez

This presentation is intended to challenge its hearers to evaluate their current methods of communicating for the purposes of saving time and emotions, as well as increasing the effectiveness of one’s communication. Effective communication can be defined as the delivering of information that is accurately received, in the least amount of time, without being an emotional burden. We can conserve our time, which is our greatest asset, by effectively communicating.

Why we need an emotional gymnasium
Location: 1950 W Hubbard St Chicago, IL

Michelle Kim

We talk about exercising three times a week but how many times do we talk about emotional workout? To rejuvenate ourselves and stay healthy, we need to go to emotional gym every day. Without emotional health, we don’t have the energy to accomplish everything else, including physical and financial health. The speech will consist of captivating stories to illustrate why we need to go to emotional gym. This speech fits well into the theme of green as healthy emotion is needed for our renewal and growth, to be able to go after other wellness including financial health.

It's All Interconnected
Location: 1950 W. Hubbard St Chicago, IL

Mike Newman

We are in a hole. As a society we are behind the eight-ball, the fastest anyone can imagine responding to the climate crisis in any meaningful ways is years away, yet only years away the calamities will start in earnest. It is not whether the exact science is “right”, I am sure it is not. In fact I guarantee it is not. But that means it may be worse, not necessarily better. And the binary of “belief” and “do not believe” is simplistic and unhelpful (and occasionally a little absurd). So how do we move forward. First, we have to understand that everything is connected. And that our lives, our connections, our assumptions are likely to not be perfect … and that is ok, but we need to find ways to communicate this complexity and find shared opportunity in the mess. Mass migrations, job loss, and who knows what are going to be realities, so how do we move forward. Clearly the answers are partly through technology and planning, but without inclusion, understanding, and empathy we will get nowhere.

Rethinking How We Paint Learning Differences
Location: 1950 W. Hubbard St Chicago, ILTBD

Marisa Gracias

When we think of learning differences we think of disabilities. They are often medically defined as deficiencies. The learners cannot help but internalize them. As I developed a view of myself as a learner, I always thought I was clinically dumb. While I was receiving a traditional education, my experience was full of yellow and red lights. I allowed other people to set limitations on my learning and thus my life. When I switched to a positive, individualized and non traditional learning environment, I began to see nothing but green lights ahead. I became more confident in the way I learned which impacted how I saw myself as a person. We need to begin to rethink how learning differences paint our lives.
